Antique Gramophone Card

Antique Gramophone Card

One of my work mates is a keen collector and he has told me he has an old His Master's Voice gramophone. So when his birthday came around I thought it would be a perfect theme for a birthday card. Seeing that it's an antique and he's the same age as my parents I thought it provided the perfect opportunity for a cheeky bit of banter too!

The parts all cut out for a antique gramophone birthday card

Here are a bunch of the pieces that had been cut on my Cricut ready to go. The only dark brown paper I had was origami paper, which isn't very strong and it's slightly see-through. So I cut out some black card and stuck them together to make it a bit stronger. I also used some gold and silver metallic foil paper labels for the metal components.

Finished antique gramophone card with a cheeky birthday messsage!

I used some off-cuts of black craft foam to give the card a bit of depth and give it a three-dimensional feel. I have some double sided foam tape, but that is almost white in colour so it would have been very obvious behind the thin sides of the front layer of the base. Using the black foam ensures it remains hidden and doesn't detract from the elements of the card.

Here's a couple of quick tips if you're using a Cricut to write in a card:

  1. Make sure the tip of the marker is clean and there are no clumps of the fibres of the marker. You can see what the effects off this are in the "A" and the "Y" on the previous image
  2. The free Cricut Sans font fills in the gap between the line and the dot of an exclamation mark and the letter "i"
